What’s life without a little bit of whimsy to it? We all have moments of drama, momentous occasions or incredible losses, and even then, we need times of levity to move on with our hopes and dreams. This has been true for all of human history, where entire societies live or die by their ability to take a breather at times.
Well, ever since the invention of the photograph, we’ve been able to document these moments, removing any doubts you might’ve had that people had fun in the past. These few pictures are from all over the internet, both from historical figures and from common folk like you and me.
Looking Far Away
This picture from 1960 has two men from widely different backgrounds, both trying to see something in the distance. Their idea of the horizon seems to be quite opposite.
American Adventure
Anita KIng crossed America alone driving her Kissel car, stopping at movie theatres along the way. This fun moment is from when Paramount dubbed her the Paramount Girl.
Cute Curl
People took pictures all the time, even in 1918. What was likely less common was sporting an incredibly fashionable kiss curl.

We’re more than used nowadays to be invaded by Japanese culture, but as this picture shows, this has been going on for quite some time.

It’s said that, if there’s a case of twins in your family, the likelihood of it happening again in generations to come is high. Still, three generations of twins has to still be incredibly rare.

The idea of children needing to use gas masks because of an upcoming war (World War II, in this case) is far from whimsical, but hey, they look cute with their little masks.
Marx Pose
A master of comedy, here we see Groucho Marx posing with his brothers, Zeppo, Chico and Harpo. The energy can still be felt today.
Watermelon Time
The 50s was a time with a lot of differences to how we see the world today, but also close enough to have a lot in common. Being able to enjoy a watermelon on a hot day remains one of life’s little pleasures.
Princess’ Pony
Princess Diana had a troubled life, but she was a charismatic woman for a reason. Here, we see her before she entered the royal family, although she was already dealing with animals like a proper princess.

Snakes on a Party

Mountain Biker
This is Susumu Nabeta, a climber that travelled mountains on his modified bike. While that’s a feat on its own, doing it with style adds plenty of bonus points.
