Star Wars is heading into darker territory with Ahsoka Season 2, and the first look suggests the wait may be worth it. Three years after Ahsoka Tano and her former apprentice Sabine Wren were stranded on a distant world, the story finally picks up the pieces left behind by the first season.

The new footage teases a much larger conflict as Grand Admiral Thrawn returns to known space with plans to unite the remnants of the Galactic Empire against the fragile New Republic. Ahsoka and Sabine, meanwhile, remain trapped on the mysterious planet as they search for a way home.

The season also introduces Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll, taking over the role following the death of Ray Stevenson. McCann gets only a brief glimpse in the trailer, but the sight of Baylan wielding his red lightsaber suggests the character remains a serious threat.

Back in the wider galaxy, Hera, Ezra, Zeb and Chopper are preparing for a war that Ahsoka and her allies desperately tried to prevent. The new season appears to embrace a darker, more war-driven tone, with Thrawn finally becoming the threat fans have been waiting to see.

Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Lars Mikkelsen and Eman Esfandi return for the next chapter.

Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027, exclusively on Disney+.
