By One of the most acclaimed series of the past few years, HBO’s “Watchmen,” has been abruptly pulled from the Max service.
The title is no longer available within the app and according to JustWatch.com, the title is not available in the U.S. on any other streaming or VOD service presently despite the series running just four years ago.
The title remains available internationally on services in other countries that have deals with HBO or Max, such as Australian streamer Binge. No official reason has been given for the removal, though Max has notably removed series like “Westworld” in the past for licensing purposes to other services.
The series launched to an average of 7.1 million viewers across HBO’s linear channels and streaming platforms, becoming the network’s most-watched new program since “Big Little Lies” at the time. The series also won eleven Emmys, including outstanding limited series, and was a critical smash.
A sequel series to the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons graphic novel, the story takes place in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws.
The show starred the likes of Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Jean Smart, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent and Sara Vickers.
