“Guardians of the Galaxy” regular Sean Gunn is reportedly set to take on the role of evil business tycoon Maxwell Lord in the DC Universe at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Deadline broke the news, saying it’s not clear if the character will make a cameo in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy,” but he reportedly will be referenced and will appear in future DC projects.
They add that a similar motif will occur for other characters in the new DC Universe which suggests more casting could be announced for roles that won’t truly come into play for a few years.
Pedro Pascal previously played the Maxwell Lord role in Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” film in 2020. Lord debuted in 1987’s “Justice League” and became a villain to both the League and in particular Wonder Woman.
Sean Gunn’s brother James Gunn and Peter Safran are overseeing the new DC Universe. Sean has starred in his brother’s ‘Guardians’ films as Kraglin, and mo-capped Weasel in his “The Suicide Squad”.
He joins a cast that includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer.
Filming is expected to get underway early next year ahead of the film’s worldwide release on July 11th 2025.
