Oscar winner J.K. Simmons will join Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in Clint Eastwood’s legal thriller “Juror No. 2” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
The project was shut down partway through filming due to the actor’s strikes but has since resumed in Atlanta. Reports emerged last month suggesting filming would be wrapping about now, that may not be the case though.
Kiefer Sutherland, Leslie Bibb, Gabriel Basso, Chris Messina and Zoey Deutch also star in the film which unfolds during a murder trial.
Hoult plays a juror and family man who has a serious moral dilemma – he realises he killed the victim in a reckless driving accident. Now he must sway the jury verdict to try to save the innocent defendant – all without incriminating himself in the process.
Collette is playing the prosecutor, Basso the accused, Messina the public defender, Deutch is Hoult’s wife, and Sutherland is Hoult’s AA sponsor. Simmons’ role is unknown.
The project will mark Eastwood’s fortieth film as director in a career that has yielded films like “Unforgiven,” “Mystic River,” “Gran Torino,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “American Sniper,” “A Perfect World,” “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “High Plains Drifter,” “Heartbreak Ridge,” “True Crime,” “Firefox,” “Play Misty for Me,” “Absolute Power,” and “The Bridges of Madison County”.
Eastwood, Tim Moore, Jessica Meier, Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena are producing. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the project which could potentially be marketed on the fact of it being Clint’s supposed “final film” – though whether it will be isn’t clear yet.
