Australian genre filmmaker Julius Avery (“The Pope’s Exorcist,” “Samaritan,” “Overlord”) will direct the snake creature feature thriller “Crush” for 20th Century Studios.
The story reportedly follows a woman hiking alone in the Everglades who wakes to find herself trapped in the crushing coils of a massive python.
She must fight to stay alive as every breath brings her closer to death. The project is said to be inspired by a true story and unfolds in real time.
20th Century Studios acquired John Fischer’s spec script last Fall, beating out several studios in a multi-studio bidding war.
The high concept creature feature sounds right up 20th Century Studios’ alley as the distributor this Fall is releasing “Whalefall” in which a scuba driver gets trappedin a sperm whale’s stomach and must escape.
Scott Glassgold will produce via his 12:01 Films banner.
