Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary and IMAX have released the second trailer and a new poster for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three,” the new preview arriving almost four months since the teaser launched back in March and five months ahead of the film’s release.

In addition, it has been confirmed that exclusive footage from the film will be attached to IMAX 70mm screenings of “The Odyssey”. Villeneuve also revealed during a Q&A that he “created a special tiny unit of 2 filmmakers & their task was to do experiments in front of the camera to bring some crazy insane footage for the movie.”

The film will be based on 1969’s “Dune Messiah” novel. The new film begins seventeen years later with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) ruling as Emperor, married to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), while maintaining a relationship with his concubine, Chani (Zendaya).

Forces plot against him, including the Bene Tleilax – an arcane, xenophobic sect of genetic manipulators who traffic in biological products. Villeneuve says the film will tonally lean more into a thriller and also feature more action than the previous two films.

“Dune: Part Three” also star Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as a new version of Duncan Idaho, Robert Pattinson as Scytale, and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica.

The film marks Chalamet and Villeneuve’s last foray into this universe. The project, primarily shot on 65mm film stock, also has sequences shot in 15/70mm IMAX film. Scenes in the desert, of which there are plenty, were shot in IMAX Digital.

“Dune: Part Three” is slated to release in cinemas on December 18th.
