It has been a long time coming, but a first look at the return to the world of “Blade Runner” is almost at hand.
American TV executive David W. Zucker is the CCO at Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, where his long list of TV series includes “The Good Wife,” “Alien: Earth,” “The Man in the High Castle,” “The Terror,” “Raised by Wolves” and more.
Another series under his purview is the long-gestating “Blade Runner 2099” starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. The series was greenlit in late 2022, production was delayed by almost a year due to the strikes, and it was shot in late 2024.
No promotional material has been released from the show yet, but Zucker confirmed this week at the 2026 Italian Global Series festival that the big reveal for the show will take place at San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks:
“I mean, the one thing I can share about ‘Blade Runner’ is that the Comic-Con event this summer, which is coming up in a couple of months, information will begin to get released then. But I think the title tells you something from 99. And Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer are quite terrific.
The one insight I would share because there was a lot of discussion post ‘Blade Runner 2049,‘ about when to set this series. And one thing that was very important from Ridley’s point of view was to keep the timeframe on that exists within the lifespan of people who were currently living. And that connectivity was very important to him, even as obviously this is a world of great distinction.”
Set in Los Angeles in 2099, Schafer plays a replicant named Cora (Hunter Schafer) who has lived her entire life on the run – adopting numerous identities in the process.
To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with a Blade Runner named Olwen (Yeoh), confronting the end of her life.
The pair become caught up in a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn.
Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey and Daniel Rigby also star while Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham are among the recurring cast. Silka Luisa serves as showrunner.
