All that Spielberg press appears to be paying off as Universal and Amblin’s “Disclosure Day” is coming in ahead of expectations at the box-office.

Following $6.5 million in domestic previews on Thursday night, early Friday sales indicate the film is looking to add a further $12 million for the day. As a result, the three-day opening weekend estimates have risen from $35 million to $42.5 million.

That opening would be the best-ever start for a Spielberg and Amblin original movie. The film is also expected to do over $30 million overseas for a global start of at least $70 million.

With a budget of $115 million and around $80 million spent on marketing, estimates are that the film has to make a total of around $300 million worldwide to be profitable.

Coming in second will be Curry Barker’s “Obsession” which will fall 29% in its fifth weekend to $18 million for the three-day, bringing its total up to $187.3 million domestically. The film will overtake the total of “Get Out” this weekend.

Third will be “Scary Movie” which looks to plummet 72% in its second weekend, taking in just $15.2 million. That’s a bigger fall than fifth place “Masters of the Universe” which sadly also looks to have a large drop of 68% in its second weekend to $9.8 million and a total of $47.4 million. “Backrooms” will slide in between in fourth with $12.4 million.

A lot of films are likely to crater next week with Disney & Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” opening and reportedly on track for a domestic opening weekend of $150-175 million.
