Nicolas Cage says that turning down the role of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man movie back in 2002 was the right call.

“For me, that was the right choice at the time” he told People this week while out promoting Amazon’s new “Spider-Noir” series.

Cage tells the outlet he had several conversations with Raimi about potentially suiting up as the nemesis, but declined in order to star in Spike Jonze’s “Adaptation”.

Willem Dafoe ultimately played the role in “Spider-Man” and reprised it two decades later in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

Talking about playing villains, Cage says: “I’ve played plenty of villains. I like both. I think they’re both important parts of cinema. I would not want to get trapped into doing one thing.”

“Spider-Noir” follows an aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

The series will premiere on May 25th on the MGM+ linear channel and globally on Prime Video on May 27th.
