Will they, won’t they? Will there be a movie? Will it stick on TV? Will the KelvinVerse ever return? Is the KurtzmanVerse really dead? Star Trek can be quite the hub of speculation these days.
That speculation shows no signs of slowing down as news starts to break online of a new Star Trek show potentially in the works. Is this the death spasms of Kurtzman? Or the first of the desired new beginning under Ellison and Skydance?
Rumors currently swirling online say that a show that was first floated as an idea over a year ago may be about to get the thumbs up from the bosses and move into development.
Previous Trek lead Scott Bakula has teamed up with producer Mike Sussman to pitch Star Trek: United.
Bakula would return as Jonathan Archer, set in the years after Star Trek: Enterprise. It is said to be a “gripping political drama” that centres on Archer as the serving President of the United Federation Of Planets.
It would show Archer getting to grips with becoming a political leader, diving deep into interstellar diplomacy, tense Federation politics, rising cosmic conflicts, and the lasting ripple effects of alliances forged in the Enterprise era.
It was said to be heavily influenced by The West Wing in its approach.
On paper, I would definitely go for a political thriller set in the Star Trek universe.
The political machinations of Andor were some of that shows strongest scenes, bringing a level of maturity to the Star Wars universe that it had sadly lacked as the core audience aged.
However, no matter how strong a premise, it would struggle to deliver the same into the Star Trek universe if run by the same people who brought you “I swallowed my translator!” so it’s success hinges entirely on which regime is in the oversight position.
