Superhero team-ups remain all the rage. But what about supervillain team-ups? Well, they tend to happen constantly, and by necessity, villains always found common purpose in their nefarious plans and formed uneasy alliances, usually riddled with paranoia and double-cross. Now it looks like Deathstroke and Bane are to be the latest team-up.
When the DCU first announced its outline, both James Gunn and Peter Safran always maintained that things were subject to change, and that nothing gets greenlit without a script in place. As a result, the lineup has shifted.
Superman plus Creature Commandos and a second season of Peacemaker preceded Lanterns and Supergirl, which arrive later this summer, before Clayface gets an unexpected origin story. Then Man Of Tomorrow takes to the screen next year.
The latest surprise is that two villains will now apparently team up for a movie, and they already have a director in the frame.
Superbad and Peacemaker director Greg Mottola has reportedly emerged as the favorite to direct Deathstroke & Bane, and the movie is further along in development than anyone thought.
It is written by Matthew Orton (Captain America: Brave New World, Moon Knight), and the script is submitted. Deadline reports that the script has not been distributed yet, and no contracts are in place.
Tom Hardy and his mumbling accent portrayed Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, with Joe Manganiello set to play Deathstroke in Snyder’s aborted Justice League sequel and Ben Affleck’s cancelled Batman movie. He did appear in a cameo in the post-credits scene of Justice League.
Both characters are favorites among comic fans and have appeared in numerous titles, video games, and other media for many years. Not sure if they ever teamed up, though?
The plot is currently under wraps.
