Paramount Pictures has announced plans to re-release Tony Scott’s “Top Gun” and Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” next month in cinemas in time for the original film’s 40th anniversary.

A trailer for the one-week-only event, running from May 13th-19th, has been released and can be seen below.

Cruise posted the news on his social media feeds, saying: “If you feel the need…Two films. One big screen. Back in theaters, May 13th, for one week only.”

The original film follows a class of elite, hotshot Navy pilots at the Fighter Weapons School known as Top Gun, pushing their aircraft and each other to the limits as they compete to be the best of the best.

Cruise stars as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in both films with the re-release available on multiple premium formats including Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Screen X, Premium Large Format and IMAX.

Paramount confirmed at CinemaCon last week that a third “Top Gun” movie is currently in development with Ehren Kruger returning to write the script.
