Back in 2024 came word that “The Batman Part II” scribe Mattson Tomlin was working on an “Aegon’s Conquest” series, a direct prequel to the “Game of Thrones” spin-off series “House of the Dragon”.
It would follow Aegon Targaryen’s bloody, brutal conquest of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya. In just two years, he successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms, only Dorne able to successfully resist.
Then, back in January this year, author George R. R. Martin indicated the project could either be an HBO series or a “massive Dune-sized feature film for theaters” with a decision having not yet been made.
Well, it seems a decision has now been made with the project being realised as a film titled “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” that will be released in cinemas.
Beau Willimon (“Andor,” “House of Cards”) will pen the script for the feature. No word on a director or potential production dates at this point.
The title was announced as part of Warner Bros. Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Tuesday night and revealed during its ‘2027 and beyond’ slate.
