For nearly ten years, sets for assorted “Star Trek” TV series have been standing in Toronto – most notably the bridge of the Enterprise, which was used for the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery” and five seasons of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”.
Additionally, some rather elaborate sets were purpose-built for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” including the multi-storey atrium and the Athena’s bridge. Well, no longer.
TrekCentral is reporting that, according to a crew member, teams began derigging and dismantling the ‘Starfleet Academy’ sets at Pinewood Studios Toronto with an auction for pieces of it taking place.
In addition, dismantling of the ‘Strange New Worlds’ sets are also underway at CBS Stages Canada in Mississauga with the bridge, Captain Pike’s ready room, the Science Lab, and Captain Pike’s quarters coming down.
It’s not clear if those are part of the auction. It does likely mean an end to chances of a “Star Trek: Year One” series, as producer Alex Kurtzman had been hoping and others had been hoping to use those sets.
The news comes as “Star Trek” celebrates its 60th anniversary this year with new new shows or films in production.
