Mike Mitchell has confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role of Stu, Sweet Tooth’s protege, for the third season of Peacock’s post-apocalyptic action comedy series “Twisted Metal” based on the PlayStation game series.

Appearing on the Doughboys Media podcast, Mitchell says he was ‘heartbroken’ about his exit as he loved the Anthony Mackie-led show, but wasn’t bitter about the departure and spoke about his love for the crew.

Co-host Nick Wiger indicated that the studio had made a creative and financial decision not to include the Stu character in future episodes. Instead, the series is moving “in a different direction”.

Mitchell wasn’t singled out either, as he says the creative changes affected several others involved in the show, with original showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, several department heads, and the writing staff reportedly let go.

Mitchell recurred in the role throughout the first two seasons, and in the second season finale, he ended up separated from everyone else in a way that makes writing him out of the third season relatively easy.

Peacock confirmed that a third season was in the works a few months after the release of the second season last July.
