While Sadie Sink’s role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is expected to be Jean Grey, casting for other X-Men roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has mostly been highly speculative (to say the least).
The other day came an update from the new film’s director Jake Schreier who revealed that Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are currently working on a draft of the script, suggesting that the project is still some way away from casting.
Despite this, a new report by Jeff Sneider at The Hot Mic is claiming several actors are already being eyed for roles. Specifically, Sneider indicates that “Marty Supreme” actress Odessa A’zion is reportedly being eyed for Rogue.
In addition, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” leading man Peter Claffey is ‘in the mix’ for Beast. These are pure rumour for the moment, with none of this confirmed by Marvel Studios, though Sneider says it’s from the same source behind numerous accurate Marvel casting scoops in the past.
Co-writer Sung Jin said in a recent interview with Variety that his favourite mutants weren’t necessarily the famous ones: “I love Gambit. I also love a lot of the side characters. I love Jubilee. Everyone goes for Cyclops and Wolverine, but for me growing up, I always loved the supporting members.”
Sneider intriguingly also says that he does NOT think the film will be the next one put into production after “Avengers: Secret Wars” wraps. Marvel has three films set for 2028 – May 5th, July 28th and December 15th.
Many speculated X-Men would take that May slot, but Sneider thinks the next actual one to go into production will be another “Deadpool” film. If so, then Marvel’s 2028 slate could be “Deadpool 4,” “X-Men” and “Black Panther 3”.
