Cameron Diaz will reportedly lead the cast of a sequel to the 1989 Shelley Long comedy “Troop Beverly Hills”.
Clea DuVall (“Happiest Season”) is set to write and direct the feature currently in the works at TriStar Pictures. Diaz is helping develop the project as a possible star vehicle.
Plot specifics are currently under wraps but Laurence Mark (“The Greatest Showman”) serves as a producer alongside Diaz and Katherine Power.
Long starred in the original as Phyllis Nefler, a Beverly Hills socialite going through a divorce who decides to lead a troop of scouts.
Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, Stephanie Beacham, Carla Gugino and Jenny Lewis rounded out the cast for the film, which developed a cult following over the years.
Diaz recently returned to filmmaking with Netflix’s “Back in Action”. DuVall is about to begin shooting a role as a Seraphite in the third season of HBO’s “The Last of Us”.
