I read up about Exit 8 a while back, but then heard nothing else about it. We missed the trailer for it, but here it is now, as it looks interesting.

OK, so it looks a lot like Backrooms, but I like the style of this. Also, let’s face it, foreign movies are always better than most of the stuff Hollywood throws up.

Exit 8 is based on a popular video game from 2023. I can’t say I’ve played any horror survival games, but by all accounts, the game was very good. The story is:

A man becomes increasingly desperate when he realizes he is trapped in a subway station, needing to complete a mission to get out.

We’ve all been there, right? It would be funny if they changed cinemas around, so when the movie has finished, you couldn’t find the exit. They could double up and use the same layout for Backrooms.

Genki Kawamura is the director, who hasn’t done much directing. He is known for producing movies like Your Name., Mirai, and Weathering with You. I have seen these, and I recall them all being very good.

As we know, video game-to-movie conversions aren’t the best; thank you very much, Uwe Boll! However, Exit 8 is the first conversion movie to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

Reports say the movie doesn’t have any ‘jump scares’, but actually builds anxiety. That’s something you don’t hear very often, Blumhouse, I’m looking at you!

Exit 8 will be in cinemas on the 10th April.
