Arguably still the greatest living movie director, Steven Spielberg returns to sci-fi, and specifically UFOs, with Disclosure Day.

While fans wait and see if he has regained his magic touch after a bit of a lean period, the press for the upcoming project is kicking into a higher gear.

As part of this, Spielberg has been doing interviews and, in one of them, given an insight into his current cinematic tastes.

In the past few years, his choices of movies to single out with praise surprised everyone when he included David Leitch’s The Fall Guy.

In a special feature interview for Empire, he revealed that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies recently rocked his world:

“Recently, I’ve loved the Dune movies. They are among my favourite science-fiction movies, not just recently, but of all time. Especially the second film. I think [Part Two] is the best movie Denis has ever made. I cannot wait to see the third one.

Spielberg also revealed that Zach Cregger’s Weapons was so good, that it made his wary of getting into the horror genre himself as a filmmaker:

“I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may. But there have been some great horror films out already that satisfy that itch.

When I see a great horror film like Weapons, I don’t have an itch I need to scratch. I see Weapons, and it doesn’t make me want to make a horror film that’s as scary or scarier than Weapons. It satisfies me so completely, it actually arrests my desire to someday make a really, really scary movie.”

He doesn’t consider he has made a horror movie, therefore cementing the opinion that Jaws is more of a thriller, and he didn’t really direct Poltergeist despite rumors.

Disclosure Day lands in theaters on June 12th. Dune Part Three is out in December.
