HBO Max’s “The Pitt” third season will bid farewell to one of its regulars, while a recurring player is set to be promoted.
Variety reports that Supriya Ganesh, who has played senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since the first season, will depart the show after the second.
The trade indicates Ganesh’s exit is a story-driven decision – the character is spending time in the currently airing second season trying to determine what the next phase of her career will be once her residency ends.
As the new season will likely once again jump forward in time, she will presumably be working elsewhere – somewhere that’s not the teaching hospital that is the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
At the same time, Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular in the third season. Harris appeared in the final four episodes of the first season and four episodes of the second thus far.
The series has seen these kinds of shifts before, most notably Tracy Ifeachor’s Dr. Heather Collins who was one of the major characters of the first season and exited after that.
The show’s second season is set to wrap on April 16th.
