By “Loki” creator/first season showrunner and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” writer Michael Waldron has been set as the new writer of the “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” film at Marvel Studios.
Waldron, who was already set to write the sixth “Avengers” film “Avengers: Secret Wars,” will now pen both that and this upcoming fifth one. As both are expected to be interconnected, the hiring doesn’t come as a big surprise.
Waldron replaces “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” writer Jeff Loveness who was previously attached to ‘Kang’, and comes onboard in the wake of director Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure from the film.
Waldron has reportedly become one of Marvel’s most trusted creative minds and has some time to develop the films with “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” not due until May 1st 2026 and “Avengers: Secret Wars” not out until May 7th 2027.
Waldron recently closed a multi-year deal with Marvel/20th Television for works across film and TV. His Anomaly Pictures company has a full slate of TV projects which are under wraps.
Questions still remain about how Marvel will handle the Jonathan Majors situation and whether the company will either stick with the actor, recast the role, or move away from its Kang storyline altogether.
