After the ridiculously awful, but strangely watchable, shark thriller Under Paris a couple of years ago, Netflix is returning to the toothy aquatic predators again for Thrash. Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night, Dead Snow) directs the project, and now a trailer has been released.
Originally titled Beneath the Storm, then Shiver, it is now finally baselined as Thrash and is part of the Netflix and Sony 1st play deal.
Thrash is set in a coastal town that suffers from a catastrophic hurricane. As they battle nature’s wrath, the flood waters have brought with them some unwanted visitors. As the townspeople fight to survive the storm, facing torrential rain, debris, and darkness, they now have to face this new problem.
Hang on, isn’t this just Crawl with sharks, which was already done first by the Aussies as Bait 3D? Ahhh, who cares, it’s shark carnage, so we will watch it anyway! We love a good shark movie here at the Outpost. The trouble is, in all of the history of cinema, there has only been one really good shark movie.
Phoebe Dynevor stars in the film as a pregnant woman, trapped in the carnage. Djimon Hounsou is a marine researcher, and Whitney Peak is his agoraphobic niece. Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, and Dante Ubaldi also co-star as foster siblings.
Costa D’Angelo, Amy Mathews, Elijah Ungvary, Jon Prasida, Gemma Dart, Akosia Sabet, Sian Luxford, and Sami Afuni round out the cast.
Thrash arrives pretty soon. It will officially release on Netflix on April 10th.
