A UK legal film has threatened a lawsuit in relation to the injuries sustained by contestants whilst filming the Netflix reality competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge”.
Express Solicitors, a British personal injury firm, has announced it is representing contestants from the show who are seeking compensation for their experience.
CEO Daniel Slade says in a statement they have sent letters of claim on behalf of contestants injured in the show and says: “production companies need to ensure that health and safety standards on their shows don’t leave people at risk of harm.”
According to THR, the firm says they are gathering further evidence and will then file a lawsuit if necessary. Right now they represent only two contestants but are in communication with other potential claimants.
Filming took place in January and contestants reportedly claim they “suffered injuries such as hypothermia and nerve damage as a result of poor health and safety standards on set”.
Previous media reports citing anonymous contestants spoke about the filming of the first episode’s “Red Light, Green Light” game which was reportedly shot over several hours in the middle of winter.
Compensation is being sought from the show’s production company Studio Lambert.
Netflix released the first five episodes of “Squid Game: The Challenge” on Wednesday to poor critical reviews and even lower audience scores with a 42% and 23% score respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
