Despite the film releasing months ago, filmmaker Lynne Ramsay has revealed she may re-edit her recent film “Die My Love” as she’s not entirely happy with the ending.

Speaking at the Glasgow Film Festival on Friday, Ramsey confirmed that the Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson-led drama was ‘rushed’ for Cannes.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

The film is an adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s novel and sees Grace (Lawrence) set fire to nearby woods as she walks into them. Pattinson’s Jackson character initially pursues her but then lets her go, and she presumably perishes by her own choice.

During the Q&A (via Deadline), Ramsey revealed she had filmed two different endings, including one in which Grace seemingly saves Jackson from the fire. She says: “Maybe one of these days I’ll get to that ending and I’ll change it and she will save him from the burning forest.”

The film premiered at Cannes last year to positive reviews, with MUBI landing the film in a $24 million deal. Ramsey also confirmed she wanted to change the ending before its release, but the MUBI sale prevented her from doing so:

“Cannes wanted it, but it wasn’t ready. But then when it was bought in Cannes there was all this pressure. It was bought for $24M and I was like, ‘S—, I can’t change this… I’ve never been in that position before.’ If you buy something for that amount of money, you kind of want it to be what you bought, right?”

The film ended up being a flop, grossing only $12 million worldwide and being shut out of Oscar nominations.
