“One Battle After Another” took the honour of Best Film at last night’s 2026 BAFTA Awards, dominating the ceremony with wins also for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn).

They were some of the more predictable choices in an Alan Cumming-hosted ceremony that otherwise boasted a few surprises.

While Jessie Buckley winning Best Actor for “Hamnet” was also expected, the other acting wins were unexpected and very welcome.

Most notably, “Rings of Power” actor Robert Aramayo, who won both Best Actor and the public voted Rising Star Award for his work in British film “I Swear,” which also won for Best Casting.

Wunmi Mosaku (“Sinners”) also took supporting actress, one of three wins for “Sinners,” which also scored for Original Screenplay and Best Score

“Sentimental Value” won for Best Foreign Language Film, “Zootopia 2” for Best Animated Film, “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” for Best Documentary, and “My Father’s Shadow” for Outstanding British Debut.

“Frankenstein” had wins for Best Production Design, Costumes and Make-Up/Hair; “F1” won for Best Sound and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” for Best Visual Effects.
