“Edge of Tomorrow” and “The Bourne Identity” helmer Doug Liman is attached to both direct and oversee the development of the reimagining of “The Saint” franchise at Paramount Pictures reports Deadline.
“Bridgerton” and “Dungeons and Dragons” star Regé-Jean Page remains attached to star in the title role and executive produce the feature with Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani writing the script.
The property began as a 1920s book series by Leslie Charteris and follows Simon Templar (a.k.a. The Saint), a Robin Hood-esque criminal and thief for hire.
The property was previously turned into the famed 1960s TV series starring Roger Moore and the 1997 film starring Val Kilmer. There’s also been multiple other telemovie, radio and TV series adaptations with actors like Vincent Price, Louis Hayward, George Sanders and Adam Rayner.
This version is dubbed a “completely new take that reimagines the character and world around him”. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brad Krevoy will produce, while Robert Evans will receive a posthumous producing credit.
Liman most recently wrapped production on the Jake Gyllenhaal-led “Road House” remake due out next year.
