Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels” is breaking a record no film wants to break.

The movie, which had the worst domestic opening for an MCU film to date with $46.1 million last weekend, is on track for an estimated $10.2 million domestically for the weekend.

That’s a drop of a whopping 78% in its sophomore outing. It marks not just Marvel Studios’ worst second-weekend drop of all time, but the worst for any Hollywood superhero film in modern history.

It’s a far more precipitous drop than even “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” which previously held the record with a 69% drop in its second week.

Overseas, the film took in another $19.5 million from 52 markets. To date, it has earned $96.3 million overseas and $161.3 million globally.

It’s a disaster but one its young star isn’t worried about. Speaking with Yahoo this week, Ms. Marvel herself Iman Vellani was asked about the film’s opening weekend results to which she responds with a very healthy attitude to the whole thing:

“I don’t want to focus on something that’s not even in my control, because what’s the point? That’s for Bob Iger. [The box office] has nothing to do with me.

I’m happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film. It’s genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that’s all we can ask for with these films.

It has superheroes, it take place in space, it’s not that deep and it’s about teamwork and sisterhood. It’s a fun movie, and I’m just so happy that I can share it with people.”

She also thanked author Stephen King who has used social media to criticize negativity toward the film.
