Lucasfilm has released a brief teaser for “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” the new animated series centering around “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” antagonist Darth Maul.
The tease, which comes ahead of the first full trailer release tomorrow, briefly shows the character with events of the show set after the events of the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” series.
Sam Witwer, who voiced the character in that series and in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” will return to the role here with events taking place after Palpatine became Emperor and Maul on the run from the Inquisitors.
The show is expected to go more into his backstory with Witwer previously saying: “We learn some different things about this character. He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”
The series, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration last year, has yet to set its release plans but is expected to be out sometime this year on the Disney+ service.
