Animated sequel “Zootopia 2” has become the highest-grossing movie in Walt Disney Animation history with $1.46 billion at the global box office.

The title has overtaken the previous record held by “Frozen 2” in 2019 which ended its run with a total gross of $1.45 billion.

“Zootopia 2” has made $333 million domestically and $1.13 billion overseas, with over half of that from China. The Christmas holiday weekend, the film’s fifth week of release, saw a box-office surge with a further $87.9 million added to its books.

The film reached the $1 billion mark in 17 days, the fastest PG-rated film to ever achieve that.

It’s one of only three films to pass $1 billion globally this year – the other two being “Lilo & Stitch” remake with $1.03 billion, and “Ne Zha 2” with $2.2 billion.

It’s certainly the most successful Hollywood film in China in recent years. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is the next nearest, the title almost at $100 million in the Middle Kingdom after nearly two weeks of release.
