Veteran character actor Isiah Whitlock Jr. has died. Whitlock Jr. passed away, age 71, on Tuesday in New York. His manager has indicated that Whitlock died peacefully after battling a short illness.
The Indiana-born actor was known for his memorable catchphrase “sheeeeee-it” used by his character Senator Clay Davis in HBO’s “The Wire” along with notable major roles in shows like “Veep,” “Your Honor,” “The Good Cop,” “The Mist,” Lucky 7,” “Rubicon” and countless guest starring roles across dozens of shows including multiple “Law & Order” series.
He’s also famous for being a go-to talent for Spike Lee, starring in many of his films, including “25th Hour,” “BlacKkKlansman,” “Da 5 Bloods,” Red Hook Summer” and more.
His first film credit is as a fireman in “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” and a doctor in “Goodfellas” before landing bigger roles in numerous films including “Pieces of April,” “1408,” “Enchanted,” “Cadillac Records,” “Europa Report,” “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “The Old Man and the Gun,” “Lightyear,” “Cocaine Bear,” and “Hoppers”.
He also lent his voice to Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto V”. His last TV role was as the Chief of Police in Netflix’s White House murder mystery “The Residence”.
