James Cameron’s third “Avatar” film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” will reach an estimated $760.4 million global total haul by the end of today – enough to push the overall franchise past the $6 billion mark (a first).
In its second weekend, the film is set to pull in $64 million for the three-day Friday-Sunday period, down just 28% from its debut and a far smaller drop than the 53% slide of “Avatar: The Way of Water” in its sophomore run.
Internationally, the fall was even less, grabbing a further $181.2 million overseas, the title dropped just 25% (and if you exclude China, just 15%). By the end of Sunday, the film is up to $217.6 million domestically and $542.7 million internationally.
In second place is “Zootopia 2,” the Disney title, which scored $20 million in its fifth weekend, up 35% from its fourth-weekend haul as family audiences flocked to see it again.
To date, “Zootopia 2” is at $321 million domestically and $1.421 billion worldwide – the top global release of 2025 and the highest-grossing Hollywood animated movie of all time internationally.
A24’s “Marty Supreme” opened in third place with $17.5 million for the three-day, and is up to $28.2 million by the end of Sunday (it had a limited release last weekend). It’s A24’s second-highest opening ever behind “Civil War” with $25.5 million. The film is getting a rollout release internationally next year.
Fourth was the second weekend of the Sydney Sweeney-led thriller “The Housemaid,” which made $15.4 million, dropping just 19% in its sophomore run and bringing its domestic total up to $46.4 million.
Fifth was the debut of “Anaconda,” which earned $14.6 million and a worldwide total of $43.7 million. “Song Sung Blue” opened in eighth place with $7.6 million – ending its first week with a $12 million haul.
Sixth and seventh went to animated films “David” and the new “SpongeBob” movie with $12.7 million and $11.2 million, respectively. “David” is up to $49.7 million total domestically, “SpongeBob” is at $38 million, but also opened in overseas markets this week, where it took in an additional $22 million.
Ahead of its PVOD release Tuesday, “Wicked: For Good” is closing out its run with a quick $5.3 million in ninth place – bringing its total to $332 million domestically and $504 million overseas, a total of $836 million worldwide (the first film closed its run at $759 million worldwide).
