Disney, the studio with the longest theatrical exclusivity windows, has become the first and only studio to cross the $6 billion mark at the box office this year.
The studio passed that today, with $2.3 billion of it coming domestically and the remaining $3.7 billion from international markets. Helping it considerably is “Avatar: Fire and Ash” which is already at $450 million in its first week worldwide and still going strong.
It’s the studio’s biggest year since 2019 when it hit an all-time high of $13.1 billion. It previously surpassed the $6 billion mark in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and 2019.0
The studio was helped by two films over the $1 billion mark – “Zootopia 2” at $1.3 billion, “Lilo & Stitch” at $1.03 billion.
The three Marvel film releases totalled $1.3 billion combined, another ten wide releases also fared pretty well with the likes of “Predator Badlands” ($184 million), “Elio” ($154 million) and “Freakier Friday” ($153 million).
The next nearest studio is Warner Bros. Pictures at $4.3 billion. It was the first studio to cross $4 billion this year, but “One Battle After Another” was its last theatrical release, so revenue has been limited since then.
