Well, well, well. Who saw this coming? Has a winner emerged in the Warner Bros. bidding war from the most unexpected angle?

It started with a shrug. With Paramount Skydance making all the running, and Comcast backed by Saudi money, all the mood music coming from Netflix was as if they had entered the race somewhat grudgingly.

At times, it felt like they were there to make up the numbers or boost the price for the others to pay. Well. Not anymore.

According to news breaking across Hollywood last night, as reported by Deadline, Netflix has emerged as the winner with the highest bid.

They are now to start exclusive talks to finalise the deal at around $28 per share.

Paramount apparently moved aggressively to lock out the streamer, but to no avail.

One can just imagine the conversations at a Netflix HQ right now.

“Oh Jesus! We won?”

“What do you mean we won? Oh crap Dave, I told you not to add another zero to the bid! Now look at the mess we are in!”

All across Tinseltown, nothing can be heard over the excited squealing of an army of lawyers as they race to have a paper deal in place by the end of the year, and the bellowing rage of a spurned Ellison.
