According to an unconfirmed report from  Nexus Point News, there are three names on the casting shortlist for the role of Brainiac in Man Of Tomorrow, from DC Studios.

Braniac is said to serve as the main villain for the Superman follow-up. James Gunn is writing, directing, and producing the movie. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor. The emergence of a new threat will force these two enemies into an uneasy alliance. Frank Grillo is confirmed to return as Rick Flag Sr.

The three actors apparently on the list are an interesting mix.

First up is Danish actor Claes Bang. He was the best thing, by quite some distance, in Netflix’s recent terrible Dracula adaption.

Next up is arguably the most interesting of the post-reboot Doctor Who actors, House Of The Dragon star Matt Smith.

Rounding out the trio is American Sam Rockwell.

Three such different actors means whoever gets the role of Brainiac may well have a chance to shape the portrayal, to a degree. The names have not been independently verified, and there is no confirmation from the studio.

DC Studios is being highly effective at budget control for their new DCU. Superman was highly profitable for them because they controlled costs and deployed an effective digital-first marketing strategy. Following this approach would mean mean blockbuster offers to actors to play villains, like in early Batman movies, are simply not on the table.

Speaking of Man Of Tomorrow, Gunn has confirmed on social media that rumors of Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Rogers, appearing in the film are false.

Man of Tomorrow will shoot in the New Year for a July 9th, 2027 release.
