Sometimes you just need some ridiculously childish humor to round out the week. It’s not big, and it’s certainly not clever, but who really cares? SpongeBob SquarePants remains a thing, and there is nothing any of us can do about it!

Now, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies have released the full-length trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and I had a sensible chuckle at least three times when viewing it.

That is genuinely three more times than quite a few Hollywood “comedies” I have seen recently.

This time around, SpongeBob is desperate to be a big guy on the scene, so in an ill-judged attempt to build up his profile and prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs, he goes in search of The Flying Dutchman and a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate.

His journey will take him to the deepest depths of the ocean, on an adventure the blurb says is like no other.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants has a voice cast that includes Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, with Regina Hall and Mark Hamill.

Derek Drymon directs from a screenplay by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman. Brady, Aaron Dem, and Lisa Stewart produce. The film is rated PG for rude humor, some thematic elements, and mild language.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants will be released only in cinemas on December 19th. Now stop being such a professional miserabalist.
