Filmmaker Chad Stahelski has revealed that the “John Wick” franchise is expanding again with both a new live-action and a new anime series currently in the works.

Speaking with The Playlist as part of their The Discourse podcast, Stahelski discussed further “John Wick” television projects beyond the recent live-action prequel “The Continental” mini-series which Stahelski was basically not involved in.

He says he will be much more hands-on with another “completely separate” live-action series spin-off he’s developing to expand the characters and worldbuilding of the “John Wick” universe.

That series will “explore The High Table… a little bit” and advises they will never “show the whole High Table” to keep some mystery. The series will allow for an exploration of side characters as “I think TV is a better format for that”.

He also confirms a “John Wick” anime project is in the works alongside this new live-action series:

“We’re really looking forward to that; we’re really excited about it because we’re doing that and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime so much. So to create all the cool stories that anime could achieve better than we could and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And we’ll still have all the fun.

Cause I think, for TV especially, world-building and action, those two have stayed pretty separate. But to try and combine them and give fans [both]? Look, I love the [TV] slow-burn too, but after six episodes, I would like something to happen in my TV shows, you know? So, to try and bring that to TV, what we do with features would be really exciting.”

“John Wick: Chapter 4” was released earlier this year to rave reviews, whilst Stahelski is gearing up to film the Henry Cavill-led “Highlander” reboot.
