There are people who pass away far too soon. John Candy was a very funny man; he always seemed nice and just someone who would put a smile on your face. The new documentary, John Candy: I Like Me, celebrates the life and legacy of the beloved Canadian actor. Candy starred in movies from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, before his death in March 1994.
Produced by life-long fan, Ryan Reynolds, the documentary will have never-before-seen footage of Candy, including home movies, candid reflections from his family, and creative collaborators.
I Like Me will trace Candy’s life, from son, husband, father, friend, and entertainer. He spent his life spreading joy, but battling private struggles to keep up with the demands of Hollywood.
There will be a new song by Cynthia Erivo, which adds “emotional resonance” to the documentary.
As I said, John Candy was one of those actors who made you smile. When you go through the list of his movies, The Blues Brothers, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Brewster’s Millions, Splash, Cool Runnings, Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, the list never ends.
Candy made a small cameo in Home Alone. Director and friend, John Hughes, let Candy improvise almost all of his lines.
I know there are still movies I’ve missed off the list, but what was your favourite John Candy movie or role?
John Candy: I Like Me will be streaming on Prime Video on the 10th of Oct.
