As everyone enjoys Jaws on the big screen, some thoughts may turn to what “The Beard” does next. It turns out that it was nearly Call Of Duty.

Paramount made the deal with Activision for a live-action movie based on the touchstone gaming franchise.

Puck News says that there was a something of a bidding war and both Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment were in for Call Of Duty.

The big reveal is that, in his downtime, Spielberg is something of a gamer and is a big fan of playing Call Of Duty.

Central to the Amblin pitch was that Spielberg would direct the movie himself.

The catch? Activision would have to agree to the standard, non-negotiable “Spielberg Deal” that gives him an huge slug of the front end points, final cut, total production control and marketing sign off.

It appears that in this instance, Hollywood was reminded that vs. gaming it is the junior partner here. Call Of Duty has made more money than the top ten highest grossing movies of all time, combined.

Activision viewed this as a deal breaker, and instead went with Paramount for a deal that gave them more creative sign off.

Call Of Duty nearly had an adaption in 2015, starring Tom Hardy.

No word yet on any potential involvement from him, or a possible director.
