The cast of Highlander continues to build, as the long, long, log gestating remake prepares to start shooting next month. Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan has joined the Amazon MGM Studios project.
The cult-favorite 1986 film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a medieval Scottish highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior, destined to battle other immortals across time until only one remains who shall claim “The Prize”. Mentored by another swordsman, Ramirez (Sean Connery), he becomes the titular Highlander and is drawn towards a final battle with his nemesis, The Kurgan.
Henry Cavill is leading the cast as MacLeod. Russell Crowe is Ramirez, and Dave Bautista is The Kurgan. Gillan will play Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife in medieval Scotland. This means that Marisa Abela’s role is likely the remake version of scientist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) from the original. She discovers MacLeod’s secret in the modern day.
This Highlander remake is written by Michael Finch with Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, Louise Rosner, Scott Stuber, and Nick Nesbitt producing. John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski is in the big chair.
