“Shōgun” dominated the Golden Globes last night in the ‘TV Series – Drama’ category, the title wrapping up a string of wins ever since it aired almost a year ago.

Because of that classification though, the show has to produce a second season to be considered an ongoing season. As previously reported, FX opened a writers room this Summer to develop two more seasons of the show.

Asked for an update on how the second season is going, executive producer/creator Rachel Kondo tells Variety: “Well, it’s ongoing. We’re still trying. We haven’t given up. And I’m not sure what we can say.”

Her husband and fellow executive producer/creator Justin Marks was a bit more forthcoming, adding that: “We’re about six weeks from the end of the writers room.”

Marks recently did a deal for a new TV overall deal with FX Productions to develop new projects for FX, including potential new seasons of “Shōgun”. Though they don’t have James Clavell’s famed novel to guide them, the new episodes are being developed in partnership with Clavell’s estate.

FX has not yet officially given the show a formal renewal.
