There’s been lingering questions for a while now about when Matt Reeves will get to work on his “The Batman: Part II” film. The first movie opened in 2022 and so far most of the headlines surrounding the follow-up have been about delays.
Both Reeves himself, and DC Studios chief James Gunn, have been asked for status updates with both saying the script is still not ready yet. Now, in a new interview for Variety, it seems things are finally falling into place.
Asked if he’s writing the film right now, Reeves responded: “Yeah, we’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year.” That meshes with reports thi week that the film is targeting a May 2025 start with pre-production getting heavily underway in the first half of next year.
That means potential casting and villain reveals are likely to take place in the first quarter of 2025.
Reeves was also asked about the success of “The Penguin” and whether that means more seasons or more of these kinds of shows. He says: “Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season.”
Reeves didn’t give any indication about any other DC series in development.
DC Studios is keeping busy – production recently wrapped on the second season of “Peacemaker,” the event series “Lanterns” is gearing up to film in February according to Production Bulletin, and “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is slated to begin shooting in January.
