“Kraven the Hunter,” the final film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe initiative that began with “Venom” and includes “Morbius” and “Madame Web,” looks set to take that shared universe out with a whimper.

The comic book spinoff is headed for a poor $13-15 million start this weekend domestically, likely coming in below “Madame Web” at $15.3 million to have the lowest start for any Sony-produced Marvel film.

Worse yet, the R-rated film cost around $30 million more than ‘Web’ – coming in at a budget of around $110 million. This would seem to squash any hope of a sequel.

The film’s director J.C. Chandor has previously indicated to Collider that he hoped to adapt the famed “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline from the comics as a possible follow-up.

Reviews for the film are set to go online from 3pm US-EST, but social media reaction so far has been mixed with a handful loving it and most seemingly down on it.

The film will do better than the animated fantasy film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” which is targeting a $6-7 million start from its modest $30 million budget.
