Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel (“Snowtown,” “Macbeth,” “Assassin’s Creed”) has spoken about the horror film he’s doing with Nicole Kidman announced at the start of the year.

Out doing promotional rounds for his new drama “The Order,” Kurzel spoke with The Playlist about the project titled “Mice” based on the novel by Gordon Reece.

It is being penned by his regular collaborator Sean Grant who worked with Kurzel on films like “Nitram” and “True History of the Kelly Gang”. Explaining the attraction of the project, Kurzel says:

“I’ve been fascinated by the horror genre and the potential of that. I haven’t done a straight horror film before, so that’s exciting. I’m getting older now, and I feel this impatience in me to want to be on set and tell stories and feel excited about different genres and different types of stories that speak to me.”

He also confirms that he is making an adaptation of “Room” author Lenny Abrahamson’s true story book “Burning Rainbow Farm” about two U.S. pot advocates who had a five-day standoff with the FBI – ultimately leading to their deaths. He adds that he’s “really hoping to do that soon”.

Kurzel has just filmed episodes of the Netflix series “Black Rabbit” starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law. That follows a New York City club who finds his life turned upside down when his brother visits.

He recently finished working on the Burma Railway series “Narrow Road to the Deep North” for Amazon Prime which stars Jacob Elordi and is based on a Booker Prize-winning novel.

Kurzel’s “The Order” is arriving in select cinemas on December 6th.
