Netflis has released a trailer for its Australian limited series “Apple Cider Vinegar” – a “true-ish story based on a lie”.
The story is a fictionalized take on the tale of Belle Gibson, the Australian single mother who launched a wellness empire in the early 2000s.
How? By convincing the world she had brain cancer but was successfully curing herself with an all-natural lifestyle. Kaitlyn Dever (“Booksmart,” “The Last of Us”) stars as Belle during her journey from “anonymous striver to globally disgraced grifter”.
The series will deal with the shortcomings of both the wellness industry and the traditional medical establishment, along with how social media has undermined collective truth.
Award-winning writer Samantha Strauss (“Nine Perfect Strangers,” “The End”) scripted the series alongside Anya Beyersdorf and Angela Betzien. It is loosely inspired by the non-fiction book “The Woman Who Fooled the World” by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.
“Apple Cider Vinger” is expected to be released sometime in early 2025.
