Pamela Anderson is back on the big screen? Yes, she is. A new trailer has just been released The Last Showgirl. This is from Gia Coppola and stars Anderson alongside Jamie Lee Curtis.
Anderson plays Shelly, the long-running star Vegas stage show that abruptly closes after a thirty-year run. As she deals with the fallout and adjusts to a world away from the show, she’ll also learn a lot about her own life, as well as the impact showgirls have left on Las Vegas.
Curtis is Annette, and it co-stars Dave Bautista as Eddie, Brenda Song as Marianne, Kiernan Shipka as Jodie, Billie Lourd as Hannah, and Jason Schwartzman as a director.
The screenplay was written by Kate Gersten. Robert Schwartzman and Natalie Farrey produce. There is a new original song on the soundtrack from Miley Cyrus.
The script was adapted from the unproduced play Body of Work (developed at Roundabout Theatre) Gersten had been inspired to write in conjunction with her visits to the Jubilee! show before it closed.
The Last Showgirl premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September. It lands with a limited theatrical engagement in Los Angeles on December 13th. After this, it goes on wide release from January 10th, 2025.
Now I am all wistful for Saturday night TV filled with red swimsuits. Those really were the days.
There is some awards buzz around The Last Showgirl and, in particular, Anderson’s performance which has taken a lot of people by surprise.
