The BBC has released a new clip from the “Doctor Who” 2024 Christmas special. The clip was aired as a part of the UK’s annual ‘Children in Need’ event.
The episode is titled “Joy to the World” and is penned by Steven Moffat. The clip sees Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor teaming up with Joy, played by “Bridgerton” alum Nicola Coughlan.
The clip deals with an AI briefcase that ties to Villengard, a massive arms manufacturer. A holographic Silurian and T-Rex also figure into the clip.
Speaking to BBC South East News (via Radio Times) recently, Moffat teased the basic setup of the episode:
“Imagine in the far, far future, imagine that a hotel chain got hold of the idea of time travel. What’s the first thing a hotel chain would do if they had time travel? They’d realise they had an opportunity to sell all the unsold nights in their own hotels in history.”
Moffat says Davies approached him to write the Christmas special after running out of time and needing to start work on Gatwa’s second season of the series.
Rather than use the work Davies started on, Moffat wrote the special from scratch. The episode airs at Christmas.
