Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi comedy “Mickey 17” has been delayed again – this time the delay is set to be just under three months and will now arrive on Easter weekend.
The Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, Steve Yeun, Naomi Ackie and Toni Collette-led feature was slated for January 31st 2025, but distributor Warner Bros. Pictures will now open it April 18th 2025.
With the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” recently being delayed from that April date, it left the Easter weekend wide open.
Warners already had an ‘untitled event movie’ placeholder on that date and so has switched that out with Bong’s new film. In addition, the new date will allow the film to have a global IMAX release.
As a result of the move, Warners has also shifted the Drew Hancock-directed horror movie “Companion” back by three weeks to take over that abandoned January 31st 2025 slot. “Companion” will also be released in IMAX worldwide thanks to the new date.
The film follows Mickey, a disposable employee sent to colonise an ice world. Under his contract with the company, anytime he dies his body is simply reprinted – albeit with his memories still preserved.
A problem soon happens when, in his 17th incarnation, he comes home to find his 18th incarnation in bed – leading to all sorts of problems of having two versions of him at once.
