Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana” sequel has reportedly set records today in terms of first-day advance ticket sales.
Fandango reports that the film has sold more tickets than any other 2024 animated film, including Disney’s Summer 2024 blockbuster “Inside Out 2”.
Overall, the film had the fourth-best first-day pre-sales of the year for any film – behind only “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Wicked” and “Dune: Part 2”.
The news follows the trailer release in late May being viewed by 178 million people in its first 24 hours this week, more than any other trailer for a film in the history of Disney animation.
“Moana 2” sees Auli’i Cravalho’s character embarking on an unexpected adventure in long-lost waters after receiving a call from her ancestors. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as demigod Maui.
The film is set to hit cinemas on November 27th, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and five days after both “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” open.
All three films are expected to push a bumper box-office for the Thanksgiving holiday and potentially save what has been a lackluster start to the Fall film season.
