6. Abigail (2024) – Directors: Tyler Gillet, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin
I was surprised at how entertaining this was. It’s well lit too, especially the interior scenes. It looks a bit stagey and too perfect but pretty to look at. A group of kidnappers are paid to capture a little girl.
This girl happens to be the daughter of a very feared underworld boss. There’s one more thing about this cute little lady that will play hell on these kidnappers, can they even survive the night let to get paid?
I liked the humor in this and the cast was fun. The gore kicked in nicely too. Stream it on Peacock.
7. The Mummy (1932) – Director: Karl Frelund
Classic Universal horror is a staple for Halloween. Boris Karloff says a lot with just a close-up of his silent piercing stare.
A team of archeologists discover the mummified remains of an Egyptian prince. Even when warned, one of them gets a little too curious and reads the ancient scroll found with the mummy aloud. Mummying then happens.
I’d hate for this to turn into a promo for 4k physical media disc’s but this has to be seen to be believed. Close to 100 years old these classic films look stunning remastered. Get the box set if you’re into that sort of thing.
8. Lifechanger (2018) – Director: Justin McConnell
Opening with a woman that wakes up next to a husk of a corpse, we hear a narrator explaining some of the strangeness that is happening. Much more to learn as it goes.
Lifechanger gave me Brandon Cronenberg vibes. We get some body horror and a main protagonist that doesn’t have or isn’t afforded a moral compass.
Jumping bodies like Cronenbergs Possessor but in a much different way, the damage caused is still just as messy. It ties together well enough. If you’re looking for something different, this well made indie can be seen on Tubi.
9. Fat Albert Halloween Special (1977)
I loved this series when I was little. Somehow I never knew this existed. The gang start off by roasting each other’s poorly put together homemade costumes, visit a graveyard, and then decide to scare the local older folks in town.

10. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) – Director: Wes Craven
For me, out of the first Halloween, Friday the 13th, and this. Craven wins. I love the look of Nightmare. Freddy is still the man. As I watched it this time I wondered what it would have been like to see this in the theater with a crowd the first time.
Shocking stuff in its day. If anyone did get to experience this on the big screen please share the story in the comments. Must have been awesome. It’s being spammed on AMC all month long of course.
